The Learning Disabilities Daytime Opportunities Service is seeking to recruit a committed, enthusiastic and innovative Team Leader to join our Catering Teams.

The service supports adults with a learning disability, who have been assessed as needing daytime opportunities. The service has a number of centres and projects that provide care, support and meaningful daytime opportunities to individuals with learning disabilities. Our vision is to support individuals with a learning disability to gain skills for independence in all areas of their lives. Through successful partnership working our Employment and Training projects support/assist individuals who express a desire for work to gain skills, knowledge and confidence that will enhance their ability to achieve paid or unpaid work.

Individuals with Learning Disabilities play a significant role in the Catering Teams within all 3 of our Learning Curves. A range of practical skills such as menu planning including healthy options, food preparation, operating the coffee machine, kitchen hygiene, customer service, ordering stock, calculating profit and loss and the handling of money can be gained in this environment. Additional skills and attributes such as personal presentation, social interaction, developing work ethic, commitment to team work, good timekeeping and effective communication can also be secured through the opportunities on offer. Additionally the provision of formal training and related certificates will increase the individual’s confidence, self-worth and in turn employable prospects.

You will need an understanding of the issues facing people with a learning disability including equal opportunities and anti-discriminatory practice.

Under the direction of the Day Service Manager you will be required to supervise on a day to day basis the Catering Team. You will need to lead and organize staff and resources in the provision of the project to meet the assessed needs of individuals in an inclusive manner. You will also need to facilitate good team working, assign work, provide support and supervision to Daytime Opportunities Workers and ensure good communication and information sharing between team members.

You will need to comply with and complete Safer Food, Better Business documentation and respond to Health & Safety Audits carried out by Catering direct and Environmental Services.

Previous experience of the devising and monitoring of person centred plans is essential. You will be required to develop outcome focused individual plans for people in receipt of the service in response to their assessed needs, with engagement of the individual families, and other professionals, where appropriate, including risk assessment and risk management plans and safe systems of work.

You will be required to promote high standards of practice including actively identifying and supporting the learning and development needs of individuals and staff. You will also need to take personal responsibility for one’s own Continuous Professional Development and undertake relevant training as identified in the supervision and/or appraisal process and as required by the authority.

You will need to use a computer and have excellent written and verbal skills to maintain records and communicate effectively with individuals in receipt of the service, families and other professionals.

You will also be required to adhere to and promote safe working practices and ensure a safe environment.

The successful candidates will join an established Catering Team in our core centre in Taf Ely.  You will be provided with an induction, ongoing training and supervision to carry out your work effectively.
