Sensory Services Team

We are looking to recruit a qualified Rehabilitation Officer for visually impaired people in Rhondda Cynon Taf (Diploma in Rehabilitation Studies Visual Impairment or recognised predecessor equivalent). The team covers the whole of RCT and utilises agile working.

The Sensory team is a specialist team that has a focus on Prevention and Early Intervention and works with individuals and their carers experiencing Sensory loss, as per the Social Services and Well Being Act (2014). As part of the wider Short Term Services, staff in the Sensory Team work closely together with their colleagues to achieve positive outcomes for individuals and their families/carers, whilst balancing risk with individual independence and choice. Therefore workers in this team are expected to be proactive team players who can recognise and draw on the wealth of experience available to them within Short Term Services. We are looking for someone who is enthusiastic, has a sound value base, excellent communication skills and a person-centred approach to working with individuals experiencing sight loss.

You will provide a specialist assessment service to visually impaired and deafblind people of all ages referred from all teams in Community and Children’s Services and a range of partner agencies. This includes Certificates of Visual Impairment from Hospital Eye Clinics and Low Vision Record Cards from accredited Optometrists.

You will design and implement individual rehabilitation programmes and will work to maximise potential, enabling people to live independently and safely in the community. There are also opportunities for developmental work and contributing to awareness raising training.

You will join a supportive team of 2 Rehabilitation Officers, a Rehabilitation Assistant and specialist workers with Deaf and Hard of Hearing people. You will have regular supervision and practice observation from a rehabilitation professional, and access to internal and external training courses.

The team is based at Ty Elai, Dinas Isaf East, Williamstown but the job covers the whole of Rhondda Cynon Taff and benefits from being able to utilise agile working across the borough.

For further information regarding this post, please contact Gwenda Lewis, Team Manager on (01443) 425491.

The successful applicant will be subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check.
