Technician - Highway and Drainage Design

The Strategic Projects Section is looking to appoint a permanent full-time Design Technician to help deliver a wide variety of exciting and challenging highway and drainage projects, ranging from minor improvements to major new roads.

The Projects Team is responsible for the project management, design, procurement, and site supervision of highway projects throughout the authority. This position is within the Projects Design Team, which undertake feasibility studies, full highway design including road layout, drainage, earthworks, traffic signs, etc., leading to procurement and appointment of construction contractors.

The type of projects typically include traffic calming, Active Travel routes, junction improvements and widening, as well as major new highway infrastructure.

There is no minimum qualification but an ONC/OND in Civil Engineering or similar discipline is desirable. Experience in highway infrastructure and/or a knowledge of civil engineering are essential to the post. Good ICT skills and the use of CAD systems will be a key aspect of the position.

The permanent full-time position will be based at Sardis House, Pontypridd, employed on a 37 hour week under the flexible working hours scheme, with 25 days annual leave (rising to 30 days after 5 years), and the opportunity to join the Local Government Pension Scheme.
