The Vocational Qualification (VQ) Team has a vacancy for a full time Lead Internal Quality Assurer/ Assessor. The responsibilities include leading and supporting a small, experienced team of Child Care Assessors in the delivery of VQ qualifications in Health and Social Care (Children and Young People).

This role is critical to maintain the qualification targets in regulated Child Care Services including residential and foster care. The team is responsive to demands for the qualification across Assessor Care Management teams, Disabled Children’s Team, Contact Team, Rapid Intervention and a range of other Project Teams in Children’s Services. The successful candidate will need to be able to demonstrate understanding of the All-Wales induction framework, (AWIF) and be able to develop and share resources to support the implementation of the AWIF into practice.

There are a number of skills required for this post.

  • You will be able to demonstrate that you can lead and motivate your team by recognising and working with the skills and experiences they already have and supporting them to develop further.
  • You will have the ability to communicate effectively with a range of people, both within and outside the organisation and your experience and qualifications will underpin your credibility.
  • You will also be able to demonstrate that you can manage challenging conversations when decisions have to be made.

Embracing change is a necessary quality and you will be asked to demonstrate how you have been successful in implementing initiatives in a positive way with people. The VQ team prides itself on having a continual improvement agenda. You will be required to show how you can contribute to reviewing qualification programmes and identifying how improvements may be made. You will also have the ability to work with adult learners and have the skills necessary to support your team to meet the learner’s learning and development needs.

You will hold one of the qualifications in Health and Social Care (Children and Young People) please see the job description and Person Specification. If you are currently working towards your TAQA Internal Quality Assurance qualification, you will be supported to complete this within 6 months of commencing duties.

 In addition, you will be able to demonstrate experience of working in Regulated  Health & Social Care settings with Children and Young People. This experience will include supervising and/or managing a team of childcare practitioners. Working with children and young people in ‘Looked After’ children’s services is highly desirable.

The Assessment Centre has consistently received excellent quality assurance reviews and the successful applicant will take a lead role in the preparation and co-ordination of these events. You will be working as part of a supportive and dynamic VQ team, consisting of a group of Assessors and Lead Internal Quality Assurers. The VQ team is based within a wider Social Care Learning and Development Service.

RCT is a large organisation and offers scope for career development. A flexible approach to working hours is needed due to the nature of the services offered to children and young people. RCT operates a Flexible Hours Scheme as part of its terms of employment for this post. There is also a policy for reimbursement of travelling expenses incurred for work duties.
