We are looking to recruit an Assistant Engineer to the Highways Development Control and Adoptions Team within the Highways and Transportation Section.

Applicants will require good knowledge of Highways Development Control, Traffic Management and Adoptions, along with a good understanding of planning procedures. The successful applicant will be expected to attain a recognized qualification such as HNC/HND in a Civil Engineering or similar discipline within an agreed period following appointment.

This is an excellent professional opportunity and your input will help shape the future of the Highway and Transportation Network across RCTCBC in relation to a growing portfolio of exciting public and private developments. Championing sustainability in order to cater for and protect the Transportation demands of future generations.

The focus of the role will be on supporting the Senior Engineer in delivering an effective, efficient, responsive and high quality Highway Development Control Service by way of providing the local Planning Authority with highway observations in response to planning applications, preparing evidence and statements for planning appeals and in reviewing engineering design and details to enable the discharge of planning conditions.

The permanent full-time position is based at Sardis House, Pontypridd, benefiting from nearby public parking and excellent public transport links to Cardiff and the surrounding area. A hybrid working arrangement is currently in place with staff able to work from both home and the office. The opportunity to work from home is likely to continue in the long term, at least on a part-week basis. Employment hours are 37 hours a week under the flexible working hours scheme, with 26 days annual leave (rising to 31 days after 5 years), and the opportunity to join the Local Government Pension Scheme and staff benefits card.

The successful applicant will be required to hold a full valid driving license and be expected to travel between development sites when required. Access to a Council pool vehicle will be made available.
