VQ Assessor / Co-ordinator – Health & Social Care-Adult pathway

The QCF team has a vacancy for an Assessor post. The work of the postholder will be across the Health & Social Care sector.

The key aspects to the role are as follows:

The role of the Assessor is to support staff through their qualification by:

  • Providing background knowledge on topics within the qualification
  • Making judgements on the staff’s understanding of their role and practice in their own work environment
  • Assisting staff to build a portfolio of evidence that shows how they undertake their duties to the standards expected within the qualification
  • Working closely with team members to share knowledge and skills to support unit requirements

The postholder will support staff through the social care induction (AWIF) Health and Social care qualifications levels 2 & 3 and CPD.

The postholder will be flexible in their approach to working with staff. They will be mindful of the shifts that staff work and may need to work outside office hours, on occasion, to carry out assessments of work practice. Consequently, the postholder will be employed on a flexible contract that will enable the team to support service demand.

The postholder will have good communication skills, both written and verbal, to carry out their duties effectively.

The postholder will be adept at time management and commit to working to target dates.

The postholder will be able to work effectively with groups of staff as well as individuals; this will include facilitating training sessions for the programme. You will also support the delivery of assessment and training sessions for night working staff as required.

The qualification requirements are very specific for this post. However, the shortlisting and interview processes will have a particular emphasis on experience of building relationships that have a sound foundation on trust; working with a wide range of people; supporting their development in a variety of ways.

To practice as an assessor, you will need to have a Health & Social Care qualification and an assessor qualification and experience of working in a health and social care setting. If you are successful you will need to agree to complete the assessor qualification (TAQA) within 12 months of employment.

The Assessment Centre is viewed as a centre of excellence and consistently receives excellent quality assurance reviews. Time is taken to ensure assessments and quality assurance processes are robust with assessors being supported to attend regular standardisation meetings. The relationship between the internal quality assurer and the assessor is critical to the successful achievement of qualifications. The assessor will work closely with the quality assurer to establish the standard of work required from staff undertaking qualifications.

The VQ team is based within the wider Cwm Taf Social Care Workforce Development Service and supports staff to learn and develop skills for their role from induction through to management of services.

RCT is a large organisation and offers scope for career development. A Flexible Hours Scheme is in operation as part of the terms of employment for this post. There is also a policy for the reimbursement of travelling expenses incurred for work duties.
